Harmony is a word that has multiple dimensions to it. Harmony between individuals right up to nations and even the constellations.
The word ‘Yoga’ in some dimensions does mean harmony – the harmony of body, breath and mind. In my classes I do not use the word ‘soul’ as the moment I bring the word ‘soul’ or ‘God’ then separation happens. When people of different faiths start asking, “Soul of which religion?” and “God of which religion?” – then segregation happens. This is the dynamics that I see in my country hence the approach. Nothing is wrong here but the circumstances require more refinement. Therefore, till then I believe skipping this discussion is wisdom. As such, in yoga, I stay away from connotation with religion and keep it at the level of Mind, Breath and Body Exercise – this I believe can bring greater harmony to this world which is separated and segregated by so many incidents which have an emotional triggering factor that may not lead to the path of clarity, hope and love. In my own personal life, the word ‘Soul’ and ‘God’ brings solace and harmony to me. In some congregations I do discuss these 2 subjects (Soul and God) freely without fear or favour when there is freedom to do it and the sensitivities respected. Especially as Malaysians we know there are certain taboos which we need to be aware of – I believe this is to preserve socio-geographical harmony.
Fundamentally, harmony needs to be established in 4 major structures of life i.e. harmony with the self, harmony with the family, harmony with humanity, and harmony with nature. I believe when we are conscious of these 4 states of life and live in awareness of these structures, we can bring unprecedented harmony to earth and all wars, famine and destructions can eventually stop. This is not some form of imagination but it is a reality which can happen if enough members of humanity start practicing and participating in harmonic concepts with the support of organisations to expand the harmonistic community worldwide.
It was in this direction that I initiated the harmonyonearth.org – The Movement Towards World Harmony in the year 2021. The philosophy of this movement is already part of this article. We can hope and see harmony worldwide activated with dynamic participation through this platform and many others propagating harmony.
I hope that we can all visit the harmonyonearth.org website and social media platforms and start creating chapters worldwide and accept everyone as members to usher in the greatest need of our lives and of the planet – harmony.
